Is there any chance my work could get me in trouble for this?

    by hoyromeo ·

This is very embarrassing but I didn’t really know where else to ask this.

So I work from home, I use a laptop with two monitors that are all connected to my home wifi as well as a work VPN. Right after I clocked out today, I decided to grab my personal laptop (NOT my work laptop), plug it straight into one of the work monitors, and proceeded to watch some…uhm…particular videos.

After just about 10 minutes of this, I stopped and unplugged everything, but naturally I started worrying that my job could somehow track this down. It probably sounds silly, especially since my personal laptop isn’t even connected to the VPN, but of course I can’t help but wonder. Is it possible that they could see the history of what’s been seen on just the work monitor? 😅

Also, I think maybe it’s worth noting that both monitors and the work laptop are normally plugged into a hub/port sort of box that I assume just keeps the laptop charged and helps with connectivity. Not sure if there’s any way they could see my history just on the monitor using this port device.

Again, I know this is probably a silly question but I didn’t know where else to ask lol.

IMHO, there is no chance that a monitor could keep your browsing history. Using a personal laptop with your work monitors shouldn’t matter. I think you are overly concerned in this matter. Nothing wrong in asking the community for advice.
